Riddle has opened up about his partnership with Randy Orton, revealing that original plans would have seen things turn out very differently.
RK-Bro have risen to become one of the most beloved as well as unlikely tag teams in recent memory. At the urging of Riddle in April 2021 across an episode Monday Night Raw, Randy Orton reluctantly agreed to join forces with the former NXT star.
Despite permanently wearing a look which said he’s old enough to know better, Orton went along with his excitable counterpart and his dreams of friendship.
Despite the rocky start outside of the ring, once the bell rang the two stars kept winning, rising up the tag team ranks. This eventually saw RK-Bro crowned Raw Tag Team Champions at SummerSlam. Although the pair lost the titles to Alpha Academy on January 10th, they have remained together, seemingly stronger than ever as they try to reclaim the gold.
However, if the angle would have followed the original plan, there would have been no Tag Team Title reign and no ‘buddy-cop’ friendship. Speaking to Mark Andrews on My Love Letter to Wrestling, Riddle explained that only a strong reaction from the crowd, saved the team from breaking up on night one.
“He was supposed to turn on me night one,”
“Literally, he was supposed to turn on me night one and then Vince and the crowd and everyone liked it so much that they were like, ‘Are you guys willing to see if this works?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ We like working with each other, we’re friendly. Randy was gone for three months, I just kept the team afloat and talking about Randy. ‘He’ll be back soon.’ I had no idea when he was coming back.”
Since losing the Raw Tag Team Titles, RK-Bro have continued to feud with Alpha Academy, but on the January 31st episode of Raw, Riddle found himself, almost by accident in contention for the WWE Championship.
After having victory in a scooter race against Chad Gable snatched away by an interfering Otis, Riddle found himself in a match with his attacker. It was then declared by Adam Pearce that the winner of the match would earn a spot in the upcoming Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Title.
Eventually it was Riddle who emerged victorious, meaning he’ll compete inside the Elimination Chamber alongside Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, Austin Theory and Seth Freakin’ Rollins for Bobby Lashley’s WWE Title on February 19th.
