Ricochet has channelled his inner Goku when discussing what he expects out of his AEW run.
Officially a part of the roster after making his debut at AEW All In, the recent signee is one of many former WWE stars looking to show the world what they can really do without any restraints. However, while other signees have been placed in the main event scene almost instantly due to their star power, the high-flyer has no issues climbing the ladder.
Comparing his rise to the lead character in Dragon Ball Z, the former Intercontinental Champion stated on The Masked Man Show that everywhere he goes he feels like a wrestler with an unknown past so needs to make an impact and rise up the ranks once more:
“The thing about Ricochet is the climb. I’m a big anime nerd. The Gokus, he didn’t start out as the guy, he started out as little Goku. Naruto, all these guys, they became the guy because of the story that built them up. Obviously, in some of these shows, for example, Dragon Ball Z, Goku got trained by Master Roshi. Do I want to come in and immediately be Master Roshi? Not necessarily. I like the build, the climb.
I’ve always kind of felt like the new guy everywhere I go, I’ve always felt like the young guy everywhere I go, I’ve always felt for some reason that I’ve always had to prove myself everywhere I go, and maybe that’s what it is. Maybe I just feel like I gotta prove myself again, even though I feel like I’ve always proved myself over and over and over. Maybe that’s a little chip on my shoulder, but I think maybe that’s what it is. I feel like I am…I wasn’t the guy in WWE. I’m a main guy, but I want to prove that I am, I guess. I don’t know. I like the climb, I like the struggle.“
Ricochet Blames Himself For The Way WWE Run Ended
The former United States Champion chose to let his contract with WWE expire earlier in the year and explored other opportunities to bet on himself. Although he had multiple championship reigns during his time with the company, the lack of direction was a frequent talking point among fans. While some have blamed management, Ricochet admitted that he only blames himself.
In recent news, Ricochet named the legendary action movie star who inspired his career.
