Ricochet Reportedly In Line For Push On SmackDown

Ricochet

A new report has claimed that the high-flying Ricochet is in line for a big push on Friday Night SmackDown.

While Ricochet hadn’t troubled the top of the card for a number of months on either Monday Night Raw or SmackDown, it appears that might be about to change.

On the February 18th episode of the blue-brand the high-flyer defeated Sheamus after overcoming Ridge Holland two weeks earlier. On the most recent episode of the show, Ricochet confronted Sami Zayn backstage as the Intercontinental Champion spoke to Adam Pearce.

This led to the former United States Champion being given a shot at Zayn’s title on March 4th.

Many fans have wondered about the star’s recent upturn in fortunes and seemingly there is a very simple explanation. According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, internally, Ricochet is seen as the number two babyface on the entire brand, only behind Drew McIntyre.

The report adds that the New Day and Shinsuke Nakamura are still listed as part of tag teams.

Also on the show, Sami Zayn hosted a celebration for his recent Intercontinental Title win. However, Zayn was confronted by Johnny Knoxville, who taunted the new champion. Unsurprisingly, Zayn didn’t take the insults well and attacked the Jackass star, leaving him laying.

Ricochet signed with WWE in January 2018, initially appearing in NXT. During his time on the black and gold brand, he captured the North American Title, alongside winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with Aleister Black, (Malakai Black).

In February 2019, Ricochet arrived on Monday Night Raw, winning the United States Championship in June from Samoa Joe. In early 2020, he engaged in a short feud with Brock Lesnar which saw him challenge for the WWE Championship at Super ShowDown.
