Ricochet Makes History Following WWE Intercontinental Title Win

Ricochet enters ring

By capturing the Intercontinental Championship from Sami Zayn on the latest episode of SmackDown, Ricochet has achieved a historic first.

On March 4th, Ricochet challenged Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship in the opening bout of SmackDown. In a hectic match, the two men went all out, with Ricochet being on the receiving end of an Exploder Suplex on the apron and a nasty looking Powerbomb.

The high-flyer was able to battle back and get the upper hand. However, the decisive moment came when Johnny Knoxville, who Zayn had assaulted the previous week, made his way to the ring and distracted ‘The Master Strategist’. This allowed the challenger to quickly roll up Zayn for the pin and capture the gold.

This win means that the new champ has achieved history by being the first man to win the NXT North American Championship, WWE United States Championship and the Intercontinental Championship.

When this was pointed out on Twitter by Wrestle Features, Ricochet acknowledged the achievement by saying simply, “One and only!”

Recently, PWInsider reported that Ricochet is seen as the number two babyface on SmackDown, behind only Drew McIntyre. The recent upturn in fortunes for the star, and now his title victory, suggest that this could be only the beginning of a big push for ‘The One and Only’.
