AEW star Ricky Starks has recalled WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns apologising to him after getting a little rough with him during a WWE appearance.
Starks is the current crown jewel in Team Taz as the FTW Champion and frequently can he heard at the announce desk on Friday nights during AEW Rampage.
But Absolute Ricky Starks once followed in the footsteps of some of wrestling’s biggest stars by partaking in some work as an extra for WWE. In Starks case however, it was a case of the extra getting a little more than they bargained for when he had to confront The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.
Speaking to Brandon Walker of Rasslin, Ricky Starks explained his role on that night and noted Reigns’ classiness for apologising later after getting some real licks in:
“When I showed up to work that day, they didn’t say ‘you’re going to be a cop’ or ‘you’re going to be a sheriff.’ They called it something else. It was like the guys who sit in the office and when something cool happens, they throw on the vest. I was a fake (security guard) basically.”
“If there was a drug bust in town, I’m going to show up late after SWAT already showed up. I don’t know who that is.”
“I went there, talked to Roman, put these cuffs on and they were really tight. He goes, ‘I can’t do anything while I have my hands cuffed, so, sorry ahead of time.’ I went to grab him and he [double axe handles me]. We get to the corner and he starts stomping the shit out of me. He’s a really great guy because afterward, he apologised.”
This wasn’t the only time Ricky Starks appeared as an extra for WWE as the star also famously appeared backstage with former Intercontinental Champion Ryback. Starks was left more than a little shell shocked when Ryback put him through a table.
