At AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming Ricky Starks will square off against MJF in what is the biggest match of his AEW career to date.
As MJF was winning the AEW World Championship at Full Gear, Ricky Starks was busy becoming number one contender for that very title. On the finals of the eliminator tournament on the following episode of Dynamite, Starks defeated Ethan Page to earn his shot at the champion.
Meanwhile, the man who helped MJF win the World Title has since left AEW.
Ricky Starks “Sad” To See William Regal Leave AEW
Aside from his on-screen presence with the Blackpool Combat Club, William Regal was seen as a mentor to many backstage. The British veteran has become known for his ‘wrestling mind’ and coaching ability since hanging up his boots a decade ago.
Speaking in a new interview with Alex McCarthy for Inside The Ropes, Ricky Starks admitted that he was sad to see Regal leave the company.
“He’s a great guy, he does care. And I do, I would be remiss to say that I do miss Regal, because no one knows, but Regal knew me when I first started back in, like early 2012. Up until this point, I had known of him, kept in contact, always saw him, he has seen my potential, seen my growth. It was great to see him when he showed up at the pay-per-view this past March or whatever.
I was sad to see him leave for sure, but you know, that’s just how it goes in his business sadly. But yeah, he was another guy that I would kind of ask and talk to because I just had that relationship built with him already. And then of course I still talked to Cody [Rhodes]. Lone Wolf type situation for me at AEW besides Billy [Gunn], but, you know, I still have people that I can reach out to that are just a phone call away.”
It was recently reported that William Regal will begin working with WWE again in the first week of January, and will be given an Executive Vice President Title.
Ricky Starks is set to take on MJF on the special December 14th edition of Dynamite, and both the AEW World Championship and Dynamite Diamond Ring will be on the line.
