Rick Steiner has asked why his son Bron Breakker does not go by the Steiner name in WWE.
Bron Breakker is the Son of Rick Steiner and Nephew of Scott Steiner and earlier this year the NXT Champion inducted the Steiner Brothers into the WWE Hall of Fame. However, the upcoming star doesn’t use the same surname as his Dad and Uncle.
Speaking on WWE’s Table for 3, Rick Steiner questioned why his son did not use the Steiner name:
“I know [WWE] came up with Bron Breakker, why not like Bron Steiner? Why, like, who comes up with that?”
24-year-old Breakker responded and explained why he went with a new name:
“I kind of came up with it from football and just playing football I tried to hurt people or break people in half when I was blocking.
That’s kind of how I came up with the name and I don’t feel like we need to use the [Steiner] name for me to be successful. I mean, I think I should, just go my own, go my own route and pay tribute to [The Steiner Brothers.]”
WWE had originally trademarked the name Rex Steiner for the young up-and-comer, however, that is not the name he nor the company decided to proceed with.
Bron Breakker has taken NXT by storm, winning the NXT Championship twice in the past year. Breakker is set to defend his NXT Championship against JD McDonagh and Ilja Dragunav in a Triple Threat match at Halloween Havoc next month.
