Ric Flair has given his thoughts on the infamous promo segment between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton that got very personal.
On the April 4th episode of SmackDown, Flair and Stratton had their latest war of words that made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The most controversial part of the segment came at the end when Stratton brought up Flair’s 3 divorces and how her WrestleMania opponent was “the world’s biggest nepo baby.” As Stratton stormed out of the ring, Flair stated that the Women’s Champion’s boyfriend, Ludwig Kaiser, had been in her DMs.
Clips from the segment quickly spread online and WWE cut out the divorce comments from the clip that was uploaded to YouTube. Additionally, backstage reports noted that Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton went off script and said very little of what was on the initial rundown.
Ric Flair Comments On Infamous Charlotte Flair And Tiffany Stratton Segment
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Ric Flair was asked about the controversial segment, to which The Nature Boy responded that he had an opinion but preferred to keep it to himself:
“I have an opinion, but I don’t really want to voice it. I can say this, it’s very sensitive. I didn’t like it, but wrestling is wrestling. I hate when they use me, but Charlotte said it right, you think that’s the first time hearing my name? I want to clarify this. She is ten times the athlete that I am. So much better of a worker than I ever was. I can’t do half the things that she does. It’s not like she’s 5’2” and 103 pounds. She’s 5’11 and weighs 145 pounds. She works so hard.
Undertaker said it best, ‘The Queen came back and regained her crown.’ She deserves it. She’ll be the best worker in the business, female, until the day she decides to retire.”
When asked what would have happened if someone had crossed the line in a promo during his own career, the Hall of Famer responded that it never happened to him:
“It never happened. I’m 0-4. There is a reason I’m 0-4. When you’re gone six months at a time, people say, ‘Why did you get married when you’re gone?'”
When it was brought up that there was likely no discussion backstage beforehand about what could be said in the ring, Flair agreed but added he did not know if there was or wasn’t a discussion beforehand:
“I don’t know the answer to that. I would assume there was no discussion of that before, but I don’t have any idea. I’m not privy to know that. I would imagine they probably didn’t discuss it.”
Concluding his thoughts, Flair was asked if he found any positives from the infamous segment:
“Well, they’re talking about it. They are certainly talking about it now, at the expense of Ashley’s personal feelings. Wrestling is a strange animal.”
H/t to Fightful.
