Following accusations made on an episode of Dark Side of the Ring, Ric Flair’s “wooooo!” was removed from WWE’s signature open.
The episode centred around the infamous “plane ride from hell” where claims of sexual misconduct were made against Flair. Although the star had already left WWE by the time the documentary aired, his merchandise was removed from WWE’s online shop, and his non-wrestling business deals were also affected.
However, in early July, Flair was added back into WWE’s opening signature. The man himself later took to social media and thanked the company for giving him back his “dignity and his life.”
Vince McMahon Added Ric Flair Back Into WWE’s Signature Open
Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, To Be The Man, Ric Flair revealed that Vince McMahon personally made sure he was added back in.
“I want to read this in closing, because you brought up Vince McMahon. ‘Hey, Ric,’ this is July 4th. Hey, ‘Ric, as of tonight’s Raw, you’re back in the opening of our TV shows. You’re going to be so proud of your documentary. I always keep my word. Happy Fourth. Vince McMahon.’ Doesn’t Eric Bischoff wish he could say that? I always keep my word. And Arn [Anderson] would say he’d rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth.”
Ric Flair has been incredibly vocal in his support of Vince McMahon in recent weeks in the face of more allegations being made against the former WWE Chairman. Following reports that McMahon intends to return to WWE, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer said McMahon should be able to do whatever he wants.
“Well, you know, you’re not going to get a negative word out of me. I love Vince McMahon. And I think that I think he should, you know, he’s entitled to whatever he wants. And, you know, shame on the people that don’t think so. He built it, nobody else built it, nobody helped him. He fought every war.”
Ric Flair hasn’t appeared on WWE television since the abrupt end of his storyline with Lacey Evans back in February 2021. The Nature Boy left the company that August at his own request. Flair recently confirmed that he will be present at the special 30th anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw in January 2023.
This comes after the release of a new documentary looking at his life and career on Peacock titled “Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair.”
