Tom Brady might be widely-regarded as one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks in history, but 2022 has not been a banner year for the seven-time Super Bowl winner. However, Ric Flair believes that the star deserves more respect.
In February Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL, before reversing his decision just 40 days later. This reportedly created further issues for the star off the field, as his wife Gisele Bündchen had previously expressed concerns over the impact his career would have on his long-term health. In October the couple announced that they were filing for divorce.
On the field Brady has also struggled with his Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently sitting with a 6-7 record in the NFC South.
Ric Flair Calls For Tom Brady To Be Given More Respect
Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, To Be The Man, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair said that Brady should get more respect, pointing to how sporting legends are treated in Europe.
“In Europe, you never get old. You become more revered. Over here, you can have one bad day, throw one bad pitch and you’re the worst player…They’re picking on Brady. Brady is not playing bad football. Mike Evans can’t catch. I’m standing up for Tom, baby.” Flair continued, “You can’t throw any disrespect at seven damn Super Bowl rings. And [Aaron] Rodgers cannot catch the ball that he’s throwin’ at two receivers. Jesus how many balls can these guys drop?”
Ric Flair’s comments came before Brady and the Bucks slumped to a heavy defeat to the San Francisco 49ers on December 11th. Brady was outshone by Brock Purdy who was making his first start in the league as the Bucks lost out 35-7. Although Brady threw 253 yards which eclipsed Purdy, he also threw two interceptions.
