Ric Flair Comments On Speculation He Will Return To The Ring

Ric Flair entrance at 'Ric Flair's Last Match' event

Ric Flair has addressed speculation linking him with a return to the ring, after the star hinted that his career might not quite be over.

On July 31st 2022 Ric Flair wrestled his last match, bringing to a close a career that had spanned five decades. Or did he?

Before the dust had even begun to settle on the event promoted by Conrad Thompson under the Jim Crockett Promotions banner, Flair starting hinting that the match might not quite be the end. These teases, although maybe unintentional, have continued for months, with Flair admitting that hearing Ricky Steamboat will be wrestling again, made him want to get back inside the ropes one more time.

Given that Flair has been somewhat causal in his attitude to retirement in the past, many fans have begun to wonder whether they might see him compete again.

However, speaking on a recent episode of his To Be The Man podcast, Flair said that he has no immediate plans to wrestle, before commenting on the “drastic” mistake he made the last time he did.

[Asked about immediate wrestling plans] None. When I say it inspires me to want to do it again [Conrad Thompson- they think you’re doing it]. Yeah. It’s not that I couldn’t, I will stand by this, I wish I hadn’t said it was my last match. But I don’t want to disappoint a bunch of fans by doing it again. But I got myself into good shape and then I you know, made one drastic, what turned out to be drastic mistake by not hydrating, but I feel great.

I feel like as long as you’re healthy you want to do and you should do what you want to do when you get to an age. I mean, you know, we always will always be limiting ourselves or what things, I feel like we limit ourselves to what people think we should be doing sometimes as opposed to what we’re doing.”

Flair also commented on why he hasn’t appeared in AEW alongside his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo, despite the partnership being heavily rumoured.
