Ric Flair Says He Was Prepared To Get Physical In Saudi Arabia

Ric Flair has discussed the Team Hogan vs. Team Flair match that took place in Saudi Arabia and revealed that he was ready to get involved in the action.

In October 2019 WWE returned to Saudi Arabia for their Crown Jewel event where one of the headline matches was a ten-man tag team bout that pitted a side led by Hulk Hogan against a side led by The Nature Boy Ric Flair. Hogan’s team comprised Roman Reigns, Rusev, Ricochet, Chad Gable, and Mustafa Ali while Flair’s squad was made up of Randy Orton, Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Drew McIntyre.

Speaking to Renee Paquette on her Oral Sessions podcast, Ric Flair discussed the bout and says he was ready to compete in Saudi Arabia but Vince McMahon put a stop to any notion of that:

“When Vince [McMahon] called me and asked me to go to Saudi Arabia, I worked out like I was going to Saudi Arabia to wrestle, right? The doctor said, ‘You can get knocked down, you can do anything you want. Few things you’re not supposed to do’ but fear is I got that [pacemaker] taken out. The longer it’s in, the more muscle where it’s protected, right? So Roman [Reigns] made this big comeback and I got up to feed Roman, but Vince had told him, ‘Absolutely hands off.’ I understand it but like I said, what a way to go, right?”

Ric Flair recently left WWE for the third time after a nine-year stint associated with the company. Since his departure, he has appeared for AAA at TripleMania in the corner of his daughter Charlotte’s fiancé Andrade El Idolo. Flair also returned to the NWA, appearing at their NWA 73 pay-per-view where he gave an emotional interview and publicly thanked WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
