‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair has spoken on The Rock and given an insight into what it would have been like if both men had collided in their prime.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Ric Flair have squared off in the past in what would have been described as a dream match in any other era. Not only did they clash on the July 29, 2002, Monday Night Raw, but they also famously met on ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’ at WrestleMania XX in 2004 in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match.
However, Flair has speculated on the ultimate fantasy warfare – 1980’s Ric Flair vs. The Rock in 2000 – in an interview with Hollywood and comedy royalty, Kevin Hart, on the star’s Cold As Balls show:
“They would have had to build new arenas to contain it. When I see him, he’s just so damn entertaining. He’s got skills where he can sing, play an instrument—I didn’t have that, but I had that energy, the work ethic.”
The last time Ric Flair competed in a wrestling ring was over three years after his official retirement match at WrestleMania XXIV. Following his short stint in IMPACT Wrestling in 2011 – which Flair has admitted he did purely for the money – his final bout came against Sting on the company’s September 15, 2011, weekly show.
