Ric Flair Reveals Who He Wants To See Break His Record

Charlotte & Ric Flair

16-time World Champion “Nature Boy” Ric Flair has revealed who he would like to see break his record. In an interview conducted with Wrestling Inc Managing Editor Nick Hausman, Flair confirmed that he was aware that both Randy Orton and John Cena were tied on 14 reigns a piece, and were therefore close to equalling his official record of 16.

I couldn’t be prouder. I think the world of them both

Flair also mentioned that, while he wouldn’t be opposed to John Cena being the person to break his record, he feels that the person that should break it would ideally be a full-time wrestler. His reasoning was that it would provide the company with a boost, as they could rightfully claim to be the home of the most decorated wrestler in history. Flair did concede that, as long as the competitor was working full-time with WWE, it really didn’t matter who broke the record.

Flair continued by mentioning that he and Randy Orton have spoken about breaking his World Title record before.

Randy Orton has expressed the sentiment to me too. Who knows? It’s funny because I would love to see Randy break it.

Among the possible candidates, Flair also included one more name which should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with modern wrestling and Flair’s recent involvement in the industry.

To be honest with you, I would like to see my daughter break it…I got all 16 of them in 20 years. It’s hard to imagine, but I can see John, Randy or Charlotte doing it

Despite the fact he expressed similar sentiments towards all 3 possible people, it’s obvious to anyone familiar with Flair and the intense pride he takes in his daughter’s achievements, that she is his preferred choice.

While the record of 16 World Title reigns is the end goal for most wrestlers, it’s interesting to note that Ric Flair is actually at least a 19-time world champion. Three different World Title changes are not acknowledged by WWE, including an NWA World Heavyweight Championship victory over Harley Race in Singapore, his first WCW World Championship (which WWE considers a continuation of his NWA lineage), and his third WCW World Championship (which was initially vacated after a double pin finish in a match against Ricky Steamboat).

Another bone of contention amongst fans is the fact that Flair won his World Championships in three different organizations: The NWA, WWF, and WCW, whereas Cena, Orton, and Charlotte Flair have only ever won titles in the WWE. Whenever the record is finally broken and, no matter the circumstances in which that happens, Flair seems at peace with the prospect, and will probably be one of the first people to congratulate the new record holder on their achievement.
