WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has opened up about the thoughtful gift he gave to his former Evolution stablemate and friend, Triple H.
Ric Flair is a legend of the wrestling world and he is one of two men recognised by WWE having the most World Championship reigns in history with sixteen to his name.
Although Flair’s time at the top of the wrestling world began as part of the NWA where he frequently held the ’10 Pounds Of Gold’ the belt Flair has become most associated with is the one commonly referred to as the ‘Big Gold Belt.’
Ric Flair held that title belt throughout the late eighties and in his run in WCW and once the company closed, the belt was retired until Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff resurrected it, with a slightly different design, on the red brand in 2002. Ironically, Bischoff declared the first man under the auspices of WWE to hold that title would be Triple H.
However, the original Big Gold Belt was left in the possession of Flair as WWE Chairman Vince McMahon allowed Flair to keep the title. And so it was until The Nature Boy decided to gift it to a close friend.
Speaking on his Wooooo Nation UNCENSORED podcast, The Nature Boy commented on giving Triple H the title belt as a gift as well as the note that accompanied it:
“It was phenomenal [his World Heavyweight Championship reigns], phenomenal until the end. That belt right there I gifted to Hunter with a note, because Vince let me keep it, saying, ‘Wish I could have dropped this to you in 1986.’”
Ric Flair also recently reflected on his monumental first WWE Championship win that came when Flair won the fondly-remembered 1992 Royal Rumble match.
