Charlotte Flair returned to action on the December 30th episode of SmackDown. Incredibly, despite at least briefly being in the building, Ric Flair has since claimed that he didn’t know his daughter was coming back.
Not only did Charlotte Flair return to WWE, following an impromptu match, she claimed the SmackDown Women’s Title in under a minute from Ronda Rousey. Prior to appearing on SmackDown, Flair had been absent from WWE since May, following defeat to the former UFC star at WrestleMania Backlash. On-screen her exit was put down to a broken arm, while in reality it was so she could get married to AEW star Andrade El Idolo.
Many expected Flair to be back in action relatively quickly, so her extended time away was shrouded by speculation. Something only added to in October when Andrade said that his wife was missing for “personal reasons.”
Ric Flair Comments On Charlotte’s Return
During an appearance on the After The Bell podcast, Ric Flair has now attempted to clear up the confusion. Flair commented on his daughter’s wedding before revealing that the star also had a “major issue” with her teeth
“I’m so happy for her, and they’re very, very happy, and you know what happened? It happened at a time where she could take a break, where they didn’t get married and then go back to work. The arm thing with Ronda and she got hit in the mouth in that same match and had a major issue with her teeth, which are from all the years of cheerleading, wrestling, and whatever else, but it was a well deserved rest.
I mean, sometimes it’s good to walk away from it. There’s certainly no loss of respect losing to Ronda Rousey. I mean, I thought they had a hell of a match and it was a good opportunity for her to get away. She and Manny (Andrade) had an opportunity to spend a lot of time together. They bought a new home. I mean, it’s really been good for them, but at the same time, I know how bad she wanted to get back into it. After a while, all that gets old and now I want back in.”
Charlotte Flair was in action on the most recent episode of SmackDown where she successfully defended her newly won title against Sonya Deville.
