Ric Flair has commented on John Cena making history in the main event of WrestleMania 41.
Making history on April 20th, John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to win his 17th World Championship, becoming the first person in the company to do so. For decades, Flair has held the company record with 16 World Championship reigns, an accolade that at one point looked to never be beaten, even when Cena won his 16th title in 2017. However, following his latest victory, Cena made good on his promise to secure his spot as the most decorated wrestler in WWE history.
While the main event will be best remembered for the significance of the result, the match itself was not well-received on social media. With no appearance from The Rock, Travis Scott’s involvement and a flat finish, fans were very critical of how the show ended. However, The Nature Boy had a different view compared to most.
Along with congratulating Cena on social media, Flair claimed that his match with Rhodes was “an instant classic”:
Congrats To My Great Friend @JohnCena On Becoming A 17x Champion! It Was Only A Matter Of Time! You And @CodyRhodes Put On An Instant Classic! Much Respect! WOOOOO! #WrestleMania
Ric Flair Was Not Always Supportive Of John Cena Winning
Although Flair has congratulated Cena on his victory, the Hall of Famer was not always as supportive of the Hollywood star becoming World Champion again. In an interview ahead of the show, Ric Flair explained why he was supporting Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania.
