Debate will rage until the end of time over who is the greatest of all time, but Ric Flair believes he has the answer.
The Nature Boy is thought by many to be the best ever, but the man himself says that honour lies with a former opponent. Speaking on a recent episode of After The Bell, Flair said that Shawn Michaels deserves to be recognised as the greatest worker of all time. Flair praised Michaels’ ability to work as a heel and a babyface, while commenting that he “carried him” during the famous match at WrestleMania 24.
Flair added that while he was an influence on the career of Michaels, HBK’s skill level in the ring far surpassed his.
Ric Flair Tips Hat To Shawn Michaels
“I don’t think twice. The greatest performer in our business of all time is Shawn Michaels. That’s hard to argue. He can work both ways. You know, he’s a phenomenal babyface and all that, but when he was younger, Shawn can be a pr*ck, which made it real and it came across. I mean, Shawn is the first guy to do the moonsault and all that. If you think about it, those matches he had with Taker, even despite their size difference.
Literally, he carried me in that match in 24. So I think that I had a lot of influence on the young guys, like him and Hunter and that, and certainly, there’s a place for me in that, but I can’t ever tell you that my skill was that of Shawn Michaels.”
During a recent interview of his own Shawn Michaels claimed that the famous “I’m sorry, I love you” moment at the end of their WrestleMania match might not happened if the match took place today. Michaels said that the impact of social media may have changed his thought process about how the moment would be received.
