Ric Flair has opened up about a meeting with Vince McMahon which ended with him in tears and the WWE Chairman screaming about how much he hates lawyers.
Vince McMahon isn’t known for being someone who holds back when he sees something he doesn’t like. Over the decades, it has been proven that no one is above getting a telling off from the boss, even if you’re arguably the great professional wrestler in history.
By 2007, Ric Flair was winding down his in-ring career and was stuck a wrestling no-man’s land. With the highly successful Evolution stable now in the rear-view mirror, Fair was teaming with, and then wrestling against Carlito, placed firmly in the middle of the card.
Speaking on his, To Be The Man podcast, Flair recalled his period, and how it placed him in conflict with Vince McMahon. The ‘Nature Boy’ recalled taking exception to being advertised for a show in South Carolina that he wasn’t booked to appear on, as well as a match where he teamed with Torrie Wilson to face Carlito and Victoria.
After detailing how he let Victoria throw him around “like she was Ricky Steamboat,” Flair revealed that after a heated exchange as he walked through the curtain he actually quit.
“I walk into Gorilla [backstage area] and Vince said, ‘What the hell are you doing?’” Flair said. “I said, ‘I’m working with a girl. I made her look like who she is, a great worker.’ ‘Who booked that match?’ ‘I don’t know, somebody right here. You just watched it.’ That was the exact conversation, and I quit.”
This led to a meeting between Flair and Vince McMahon, where the two-time WWE Hall of Famer arrived with two lawyers. In the meeting, McMahon blasted Flair for involving the lawyers, screaming that he even “hated his won f*cking lawyer.” The brutal exchange left the 16-time World Champion in tears.
“[Vince McMahon] chewed my a** out and I started crying and said, ‘Okay,’” Flair said. “He cussed out my lawyers. He said, ‘Who the f*** are these two j*ckoffs? You’ve got a lot of balls to bring a lawyer into my office. Aren’t you man enough to talk to me man to man? I hate lawyers. I hate my own f*cking lawyer!’”
It has recently been confirmed that Ric Flair will be returning to the ring one more time at Starrcast V, when he’ll team with FTR to take on the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and an as yet unnamed partner. The event has already sold out.
It has also been announced that Flair is back working with WWE on a new documentary charting his life and career.
