Ric Flair has broken his silence after being released by WWE.
Reports emerged on August 2nd suggesting that Ric Flair had left WWE, although there was no confirmation from the company themselves. WWE released their own very short statement confirming the reports a day later, saying that Flair’s release was effective as of August 3rd.
In response, Flair has now released his own statement explaining that he isn’t upset with WWE, adding that they had different visions for his future. You can read the full statement below.
“I Am Officially Able To Respond To All The Press Related To My Requested Release From WWE, Which They Have Given Me. I Want To Make It Really Clear With Everyone That I’m Not Upset With WWE At All. They Solely Are Responsible For Putting Me In The Position Of Life That I’m In Right Now, Where I’m Seen In The Brightest Light Ever. We Have A Different Vision For My Future. I Wish Them Nothing But Continued Success! Thank You For Everything! Nothing But Respect!”
Flair leaving WWE has surprised many as the Hall of Famer reportedly re-signed with the company just over a year ago. However, despite signing the new deal, Flair has been an infrequent presence on WWE television.
His most recent storyline in early 2020 saw the 16-time World Champion betray his daughter Charlotte to side with on-screen partner Lacey Evans before the latter’s real-life pregnancy brought the storyline to a halt. Before then, Flair played an integral role in the storyline between Edge and Randy Orton.
It was later reported that it was this storyline featuring Lacey Evans which led Flair to question his future. The report from Fightful Select, notes that Flair had grown “frustrated” with certain booking decisions. This culminated in him going to Vince McMahon directly to air his grievances and ask for his release.
