Ric Flair Dismisses Comparisons With 38-Year-Old Top WWE Star: “There’s Levels To The Game”

Ric Flair thinks he is above an athlete from the new generation to whom he was recently compared.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart believes his technical style more closely associates with the art of wrestling than the hard-hitting, chop-heavy offense of guys like Ric Flair and Gunther. Hart’s comments brought a comparison of styles between Flair and his much younger colleague. But The Nature Boy seems to think otherwise.

While Flair admitted that The Hitman truly was one of the greats, he dismissed the comparisons to The Ring General. Furthermore, he explained that both the technical artistry and the brawling, storytelling-focused style are all part of the medium. The Nature Boy also pointed out Hart’s inability to accept the various styles.

Ric Flair Responds To Bret Hart Comparing Him With Gunther: “There’s Levels To The Game”

Ric Flair told The Escapist Magazine recently that the physicality of his in-ring style brought the emotional core of a match alive, ergo connecting well with the audience. He recalled Bret Hart’s dislike in getting chopped, but then Flair felt that was only The Hitman’s personal outlook on the vast medium that was pro wrestling.

As for the chops, The Nature Boy stated that it was a deliberate attempt at making the matches feel more real. In 2025, Gunther follows the legend’s path, as the former World Heavyweight Champion is known for chopping and weakening his opponents. Be that as it may, the WWE Hall of Famer says he was on another level in his prime.

For Gunther, I haven’t watched him enough, but what they find fascinating about Gunther is his look. He has a tremendous look, because when he wrestled Pat McAfee–Pat McAfee was 10 times the athlete that he is. But Gunther has a great look. His facials are great and all that. But if you’re comparing him to me, come on, there’s levels to the game,” Ric Flair said.

Meanwhile, The Ring General has been off WWE TV since losing the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.
