Ric Flair Addresses Possibility Of John Cena Breaking His Record During WWE Retirement Tour

Ric Flair has been asked about a possibility that may occur during the John Cena retirement tour.

With Cena announcing at Money in the Bank that 2025 would be his final year as an in-ring competitor, fans have begun to speculate who Cena’s opponents will be at the big shows and ultimately who will receive the honour of being in the Hollywood star’s final contest.

While the storylines and opponents remain to be determined, one question that has been asked repeatedly is whether or not Cena will win a 17th World Championship and overtake The Nature Boy’s long-standing record. Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Flair was asked if he had any issues over his record being broken by Cena. While the Hall of Famer has the utmost respect for Cena and will have no problems if it were to happen, there is another wrestler he would prefer to see break the record first:

“None. The honest to God truth, I think so much personally of John Cena. He’s just one of those really great guys, in my opinion. And I have known a few. In a perfect world, it would be my daughter which I think would be the biggest thing that could ever happen. I told her one time and she got upset. Not upset but she didn’t like the comparison. I said ‘you’d would be as famous as Serena Williams if you broke that record that’s been there for so long.’ She didn’t like the comparison but she’s as good an athlete as there is alive today.

If they do it with John, I have no problem. I’d be the first one to hit the ring and shake his hand. They’re meant to be broken. Sentimentally, I like it but – I’d hit the ring on John. I’d probably take a blade, jump him without telling anybody, have him make a comeback, and give me the same hold.”

It should also be noted that while WWE has constantly stated that Flair has won 16 World Championships in his professional wrestling career, these are only titles that the company recognises. The true figure for Flair is around 25 World Title reigns.

Ric Flair Has Had Little Contact With Fellow Legend

Still appearing at conventions at signings following his retirement, Flair remains a part of the wrestling world and keeps in touch with many stars of the past. However, during the same interview, Ric Flair stated that he had not heard from Steve Austin in a long time.

Taking to social media, Ric Flair has hit out at ESPN.

In a new interview, a former WWE announcer recalled being ridiculed for botching Ric Flair’s finisher.
