WWE have officially announced that ‘The Nightmare’ Rhea Ripley will battle Toni Storm on the December 16 edition of NXT.
The match was announced after both women competed in WarGames, on different sides, on December 6 6 with Ripley representing Team Shotzi and Storm on the side of Team LeRae. With the babyfaces coming out on the losing end, Ripley is in search of revenge.
Both women have a long and illustrious history together prior to their arrival on the black and gold brand, having been friends since they were sixteen years old. However, they in-ring enmity can be traced all the way back to their time in NXT UK.
It was Rhea who injured and defeated her fellow Australian in the Final of the NXT UK Women’s Championship Tournament in November 2018 to become the inaugural champion – the best match of all their meetings – while Storm got her revenge by downing the superstar to capture the gold at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.
The pair weren’t done there. Rhea Ripley lost the rematch when the British brand travelled to America and once Storm had dropped her coveted prize to Kay Lee Ray, she took aim at Ripley’s NXT Women’s Championship at Worlds Collide in January 2020 where she came up short.
In singles competition, they’re drawn at two victories apiece and now with the tables turned – Storm being the heel and Ripley being the babyface – for the first time in their rivalry, it’ll be interesting to see if a longer storyline has the desired effect of putting ‘The Nightmare’ back on track as we head towards the Royal Rumble.
