Rhea Ripley has admitted that she would “love” if intergender returned to WWE.
While intergender wrestling remains a staple of many companies outside of WWE, it has been absent from the sports entertainment giant for a number of years.
Although it was more of a common occurrence in the Attitude Era and into the early 2000’s, over the years pressure from sponsors and advertisers meant that WWE’s output changed. This coupled with WWE’s shift to a PG-TV Rating 2008, meant that intergender wrestling in the company became a thing of the past.
However, with Rhea Ripley enjoying a starring role in the Judgment Day faction and often clashing with her male counterparts, many have wondered whether that might change.
Speaking to Cultaholic’s Sam Driver ahead of WWE Clash At The Castle, Ripley admitted that she would love to face the likes of Edge and Rey Mysterio in a WWE ring.
“I would obviously love it, I’d love to have a match with Dom [Mysterio], I’d love to have a match with Edge, I’d love to have a match with Rey [Mysterio]. To see whether that happens or not is a different story as I know it’s a bit of a touchy subject with the networks and all of that. I’m not too sure what’s going to happen, but if it does I hope that I’m the person for it,”
As a result of her prominence in the male-dominated Judgment Day, Ripley has been compared to WWE legend Chyna, who was considered a pioneer of intergender wrestling. Speaking to Inside The Ropes’ own Kenny McIntosh, the former Raw Women’s Champion revealed that she loves the comparisons.
