Former NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley has paid tribute to the current title holder Kay Lee Ray.
Ripley defeated Toni Storm in August 2018, wining a tournament to be crown the first ever champion. While The Nightmare has gone on to bigger and better things stateside, she has now tipped Kay Lee Ray to follow suit.
Speaking to BT Sport, the current RAW Women’s Champion said that Kay Lee Ray could take over NXT, SmackDown or RAW if she wanted to.
“I can see her coming to America, and if she wanted to, should could take over NXT, and if she wanted to, she could take over RAW or SmackDown. She is absolutely fantastic. I love watching her work. I love watching her cut a promo. I wish I could cut a promo like that. I love watching her in the ring, I think that she’s absolutely fantastic. I got to be in the ring with her at the first ever women’s WarGames match and that’s the only time that I got to wrestle her. But, in that little bit of time, it felt so right and she was just so good at everything. I was like ‘Damn, this girl she could go, and she could take over if she really wanted to.’ I’m really excited to see what she does in the future. But right now, I want to see how long she can hold on to that NXT UK Women’s Championship because that’s impressive.”
Kay Lee Ray has held the NXT Women’s Title for over 600 days after winning the belt back January 2019.
Speaking exclusively with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy, Scottish Daredevil declared her intention to remain NXT UK’s ‘forever champion.’ However, that’s not to say that she hasn’t also got her lofty ambitions for herself when she eventually heads across the pond. The long-reigning champion, outlined a blockbuster dream match.
“I have been thinking about something recently though. I’ve went through pretty much all the Horsewomen and I know I would love to wrestle every single one of them individually but when you look at the champions right now, I would be lying if I didn’t say my dream match right now wouldn’t be… The NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray, we’ve got the NXT Women’s Champion in Raquel, we’ve got Bianca Belair, we’ve got Rhea. Let’s put the four of us against the Four Horsewomen! I think that would be amazing, and I’m probably stretching a bit here…but put us in WarGames, do whatever you like! Just let us go.”
Kay Lee Ray’s latest title defence came against Meiko Satomura in March.
