WrestleMania 37 will undoubtedly go down as an event that Rhea Ripley will never forget.

While Ripley made her WrestleMania debut at the 2020 edition of the extravaganza, there were no fans present and she lost her NXT Championship to Charlotte Flair. However, in a real change of fortunes, on night two of WrestleMania 37 the Aussie Superstar won the RAW Women’s Championship in front of more than 25,000 people.

Ahead of the event getting underway, Vince McMahon took the stage on night one to address the WWE Universe. McMahon was joined by the WWE locker room at the top of the ramp before Bebe Rexha sang America The Beautiful. As the camera panned around the stadium, a visibly emotional Rhea Ripley was pictured fighting back the tears.

Speaking to TV Insider, Ripley has now explained why she got so emotional and how it was a fellow Superstar fighting back the tears which caused her to shed a tear of her own.

“It was crazy walking through the curtain and seeing the crowd and how excited they were. All my dreams were coming true. It was something I worked toward for a long time. I was trying to hold it all together, telling myself, “Don’t cry.” Then I looked over to Edge near me, and he had tears in his eyes. He nodded at me and winked. I just lost it. I could not hold it together. Then I saw this fan in the front saying, “Hey Rhea! You got this. You’re going to kill it” — giving me this pep talk. Next thing I know, I’m being shown on the big screen.”

Later on in the interview, the new RAW Women’s Champion described being given advice by Paul Heyman, who told her to “stay humble, but don’t stay silent.”

Following her victory over Asuka at WrestleMania, Ripley was immediately thrust back into action on RAW. After losing her title, the Empress Of Tomorrow, angry at her defeat, attempted to win the championship back by going one on one with Ripley one more time.

However, ahead of the match Charlotte Flair returned and cut a scathing promo, taking aim at the entire women’s roster. While Charlotte eventually left the ring, she returned during the WrestleMania rematch to beat down both Ripley and Asuka leaving them laying at ringside.
