Rhea Ripley has revealed that she was initially unsure of teaming up with Nikki A.S.H., but soon warmed to her new tag partner.
The two came together to defeat Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax on the August 23rd episode of Raw, and thanks to that victory soon found themselves facing the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Natalya and Tamina. On September 20th, the team dubbed ‘Super Brutality’ captured the gold in just two and a half minutes.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, the ‘Nightmare’ opened up on being a “little bit standoffish” when she was paired up with the Nikki A.S.H. but says she is winning her over.
“At first I was a little bit standoffish. But she is growing on me. She is such a good person, warm-hearted and positive. Sometimes you just need someone like that behind you, especially when you’re someone like me who just goes out there and brutalizes people. Sometimes I need to calm down a little bit, so I’m glad to have Nikki by my side. To be honest, I’m having the time of my life right now in this tag team. It’s a lot of fun. I do miss singles competition and do love it, but there are always times for a change.”
Ripley also believes that the two winning the titles is “truly incredible”, especially with someone she looked up to when in NXT.
“Right now, I think the fact we won the Women’s Tag Team Championship is truly incredible. And to do it with someone like Nikki (who) was in NXT when I first started. I really looked up to her. To hold these titles with her is truly extraordinary.”
During the WWE Draft, it was announced that Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. will officially remain on Raw, but as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions they will still be able to appear on any brand.
