A new report has suggested that Rhea Ripley is now considered a babyface by those within WWE.
Rhea Ripley won the RAW Women’s Championship from Asuka at WrestleMania 37 before finding herself targeted by Charlotte Flair. Following her return to WWE the night after WrestleMania, the second generation Superstar challenged for Ripley’s championship twice, leaving without the title on both occasions. First in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania Backlash and later at Hell In A Cell.
However, it was to be third time lucky for Flair who finally vanquished the champion at Money In The Bank.
During the match both women pushed the other to the limit as they traded near falls. Flair appeared on the edge of losing control on multiple occasions but her anger only made her more determined to win. After hitting Natural Selection from the top rope, Ripley somehow kicked out, but her defiance only appeared to spur the challenger on.
The Queen later trapped Ripley’s leg in the ring steps before delivering a couple of vicious kicks. With the champion in trouble, Flair returned to the ring, locking in the Figure Eight. Ripley fought valiantly but was eventually forced to tap out.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Ripley is now seen as a babyface within WWE following the defeat.
“In the company internal depth chart, Ripley has been switched from the heel side to the face side. It really doesn’t matter because they aren’t married to people about their positions and it can change and be inconsistent, but this is an official turn coming off her title loss.”
Charlotte Flair’s return to the top of RAW’s women’s division turned out to be a short one. After declaring that she could beat Ripley anytime and anywhere, Flair was forced to defend her newly won title against the Aussie in the main event of Monday Night RAW.
While Flair escaped with her championship initially via a disqualification, she didn’t bank on the arrival of Ms Money In The Bank Nikki A.S.H. Ripley attacked Flair after the main event, leaving the door open for Nikki to cash in her money in the bank contract. After a top rope cross-body Nikki pinned Flair to claim her maiden singles title.
