Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik, split in the fall of 2022, after the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion betrayed his father. While the young star has risen to the occasion as a singles competitor, he and the luchador legend remain on bad terms onscreen.
The WWE Hall of Famer is in the twilight of his career, and he has already moved on from a deeply personal rivalry with his son. They have two WrestleMania showdowns between them, both of which were won by Rey.
Furthermore, the Biggest Little Man of WWE has had a 34-year-long career. But the two things that eluded him were the AAA Mega Championship and becoming a double champion. If Dominik manages to accomplish this, he would be the first in the Mysterio family to do so.
Rey Mysterio Says He Will Tip His Mask To Son Dominik If He Becomes AAA Mega Champion At Worlds Collide
On RAW Recap, Rey Mysterio articulated the perplexing situation he has found himself in. On the one hand, Dominik was a spoilt brat and, in his father’s words, always on “cloud nine.”
Be that as it may, the elder Mysterio admitted that if his son defeated El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA Worlds Collide on September 12, then Dominik Mysterio would have earned his respect, as he had never won the AAA Mega Championship himself despite wrestling for the promotion for 4 years.
The elder Mysterio did point out, though, that it would not make sense to call his son the greatest Mysterio of all time even if the latter becomes a double champion in a few days, because Rey Mysterio’s body of work spans across nearly three and a half decades.
Well, first thought that comes to mind is, I never became Mega Champion in AAA in the 4 years that I was there. So, honestly, God’s honest truth, I give him his props if he overcomes that obstacle.
Another thing that a Mysterio has never done is become double champion – carrying a title from the US and a title from Mexico. If he were to do that, now I’m gonna have to tip my mask twice to him. Would it be hard? Yes, it would be, because I wish he was flat on this ground, on earth, and not in cloud nine,” Rey Mysterio said.
The Hall of Famer added, “I don’t know if two titles define you as ‘The greatest Mysterio of all time,’ I mean, this is gonna happen in one night. I’ve been doing this for 34 years. Would one night overcome 34 years of career? That’s a people question.”
Meanwhile, Dominik Mysterio has put away two-time WWE Champion AJ Styles to keep his IC Title reign intact. But his latest win on RAW last week was controversial, and Styles reportedly is not done with Dirty Dom yet.
