Rey Mysterio Was Sickened By What John Cena Did, Recently Sent Him A Text

John Cena Cody Rhodes WWE 2025 Rey Mysterio RAW Recap WWE Championship SummerSlam John Cena WWE Farewell Tour John Cena's Heel Turn

Rey Mysterio loved the finale of the John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes rivalry, which was a Street Fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam. But he was also sickened by something Cena did.

At Elimination Chamber: Toronto in March, John Cena beat Cody Rhodes to a pulp. At WrestleMania 41, he took the Undisputed WWE Title away from Rhodes. Cena continued his first heel run in over two decades afterwards, retaining against Randy Orton and CM Punk, before abruptly turning babyface and dropping the belt back to The American Nightmare at SummerSlam.

Their feud was a bit bizarre due to many factors, like the disappearance of The Final Boss and Travis Scott from the storyline. Also, R-Truth’s involvement that fizzled out with no payoff, and then John Cena’s rather sudden face turn on the SmackDown before The Biggest Party of the Summer.

Be that as it may, this is The Greatest Of All Time’s last ride, his WWE Farewell Tour. And besides, it had its high moments, including the commencement and culmination of his rivalry with The American Nightmare, his history-making 17th World Title. Like many fans, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio was enjoying these high moments.

Rey Mysterio Was Sickened By John Cena’s Ambush On Cody Rhodes, Reveals Text He Sent To Both WWE Stars

On RAW Recap, Rey Mysterio revealed that he was sickened by the Elimination Chamber incident, but noted that their SummerSlam main event was impeccable, praising them for getting many things right in that match. He also added that if the viewers did not see the heel turn coming, like him, then it was executed to perfection.

I’ll tell you what–the day I saw John Cena turn on Cody [Rhodes], I was sick to my stomach. I couldn’t believe it. But again, I didn’t see it coming,” Rey Mysterio began. “So, I had 50/50 partial feelings on what was going on because if I didn’t see it coming, that means it was done very well.”

The luchador legend continued, “The last match that Cody and Cena had, SummerSlam, was incredible. I really enjoyed it. Me personally, it’s very different when you’re in the locker room watching the monitors. But when you’re at home and you have nobody around and you’re just chill, you’re having yourself a drink and you’re watching the show, you realize things that you don’t realize when you’re at the arena. I remember texting Cody and Cena, I said–really good match guys, I really enjoyed it from home. Congratulations to both of you.”

Cena has seven more dates left in his WWE Farewell Tour, which is set to permanently end his in-ring career in December 2025.
