Rey Mysterio gives a health update as his absence from WWE resumes.
Rey Mysterio’s latest WWE match was on SmackDown’s April 18 episode, where he teamed up with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix against American Made. Although the Hall of Famer’s team won, he sustained an injury in the process, which caused him to miss WrestleMania 41, and his absence will unfortunately continue.
While on Pro Wrestling & MMA Interviews with Me (Jimmy V3), Rey Mysterio was asked how he can be on top for so long, to which he answered that it wasn’t an easy task, and he is still recovering from a torn groin and a busted eardrum.
“[How have you been able to stay on top all these years? Not easy to do in your industry.] No, not easy. Obviously, with the amount of injuries that I’ve had over the years, I’m actually recovering from one that I just had right before WrestleMania, a torn groin and a busted eardrum.”
Injuries aside, Mysterio said his love and passion for the sport kept him going. He also answered that his son Dominik Mysterio helped him gain a new strength to continue, despite their on-screen rivalry.
“You know, I still love doing what I do. I definitely believe that I picked up my second wind when my son started to wrestle, and he broke in for the first time, although he’s been around since he was seven years old when we had the storyline with Eddie Guerrero and the custody of Dominik. But overall, the passion that I have for the sport,”
If not for the injury at SmackDown, Rey Mysterio would have faced El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41. However, the spot went to Rey Fenix instead. The suspected Chad Gable won the match.
Rey Mysterio Names Another Important Reason That Kept Him On Top For So Long
Continuing with his answer, Rey Mysterio shared that a couple more reasons for his success are due to him not getting in trouble backstage and the endless support from fans around the world. He shared that he still feels connected with the crowd over the years, and being able to travel and meet them has been an added reason for his success.
“I want to consider myself a peacemaker. I don’t have any problems, at least I don’t think I do with any of my colleagues. With my fans around the world, I like to connect and some way that keeps me pushing forward and loving what I’ve been doing for the past three, four years, or should I say from the age of four when I started training.
It will be interesting to see where and when fans will see Rey Mysterio in WWE again.
