Rey Mysterio has given the clearest indication yet as to when he would like to hang up his boots.
The upcoming edition of Monday Night Raw will be a celebration of all things Rey Mysterio. The show at the legendary Madison Square Garden marks 20 years to the day since the legendary high-flyer made his WWE debut.
By the time Mysterio arrived in WWE, he was already known as one of the premiere performers in the world, after wowing North American audiences with his high energy style in both ECW and WCW.
For a man who made his professional debut back in 1989 as a 14-year-old, it’s no secret that he’s now closer to the end of his career than the start. After all the now 47-year-old is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, and former World Champion.
“It’s funny because they don’t prep you up now like they do for NFL players. For wrestling, I’ve always heard from others that they just go until they can’t anymore. There’s really no start and end date. You just run through it until you can’t or until you step away to do something else. For me, now that I’m getting closer to my fifties and I see my son wrestling, I tell myself that I wanna go three more years and I don’t wanna go past fifty. But then I remind myself, what if I feel good. Can you still go another year? As of right now, my date has always been to not go over fifty.”
The July 25th episode of Raw will also see Roman Reigns wrestle on the red brand for almost a year, as he prepares to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
