Rey Mysterio Recovering From “Severe Whiplash”

Rey Mysterio is suffering from “severe whiplash” after an incident on the July 28th episode of SmackDown.

The Lucha legend suffered the injury during a match with Santos Escobar to decide a new number one contender for the United States Title. During the bout, Escobar dived to the outside and Mysterio landed awkwardly, hitting his head. The accident took place during a commercial break, and once back live Mysterio was shown being attended to by doctors before the match was called off and Escobar declared the winner.

Following the incident, Dave Meltzer reported that Rey Mysterio actually “had his bell rung twice” during the match but was now doing okay.

“They were working on him during the commercial break, and he is fine now from what I understand.

Fine is a relative term, I mean he got his bell rung twice. I don’t know if he has a concussion, I don’t know if he is taking time off. I haven’t been told anything apart from that he’s fine. That’s essentially what happened there.”

On the August 4th edition of SmackDown, Michael Cole noted that Mysterio is suffering from “severe whiplash” and is recuperating at home. His condition is being monitored on a day-to-day basis.

When Is Rey Mysterio Expected Back On WWE Television?

While it’s unclear when he’ll be back in action in the ring, Mysterio is due to appear on the August 8th episode of NXT. The WWE Hall of Famer will be in the corner of Dragon Lee who is set to face Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title.
