Rey Mysterio Predicts Rising NXT Talent Will Be WWE’s Next “Big Star”

Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio sees big things on the horizon for one of NXT’s up-and-coming superstars, claiming he’ll be a big name in WWE in the near future!

Rey’s son, Dominik Mysterio surprised the wrestling world earlier this week when he shockingly captured the NXT North American Championship with some help from his Judgement Day allies. Dominik successfully defended his title on the following SmackDown against Butch after NXT head honcho Shawn Michaels appeared on the blue brand to make the match official.

With an NXT title match headlining the show on top of SmackDown emanating from NXT’s home turf, the show attracted several of the black and gold brand’s biggest stars. NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton both appeared in the crowd as did Wes Lee, the man Dominik dethroned for his new title, Trick Williams and one of NXT’s biggest recent independent signings – Dragon Lee.

In an exclusive clip posted on social media, Rey Mysterio caught up with Lee backstage after SmackDown went off the air. Lee said Mysterio was one of his biggest influences in wrestling whilst Mysterio praised the rising star, claiming he has “big things ahead!”

“You have big things ahead of you. You’re gonna become a big star here.”

The topic then turned to Dominik and his new NXT title, with Rey giving Dragon Lee permission to fight Dominik for the belt and stating that he wanted to be there for the bout. Lee took to social media afterwards to reflect on his interaction with the legendary luchador.

Rey’s Son Dominik Has Had An Impressive Week

On top of winning his first singles championship of his WWE career and giving NXT a huge viewership boost, Dominik also made WWE history this week with an impressive first-ever accomplishment!

The NXT North American Champion became the first WWE star in history to main event RAW, NXT and SmackDown all within a single week. Dominik main evented RAW alongside Damian Priest against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for their Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles, followed by his NXT North American title match against Wes Lee on NXT and finally defended his newly-won belt against Butch in SmackDown’s main event.
