Over his long and illustrious career, Rey Mysterio has fought just about everyone on every roster he’s been a part of from ECW to WWE.
However, with a new crop of stars bleeding through and NXT readying the future generation of athletes, the field is re-setting to give legends like Rey Mysterio a new challenge.
Prior to Sunday night’s WWE Hell in a Cell, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion spoke to WWE Ahora about the pay-per-view and never having stepped into the structure during his decorated time in the industry.
Quizzed on whether he would like a Hell in a Cell Match before he eventually decides to hang up his mask, Mysterio opined that while he wasn’t eager to risk his career there was one man he’d want to stand across from should the opportunity occur:
“That’s a great question. To be honest, I haven’t imagined being in a match as dangerous as this one. I’ve imagined myself in matches that I have participated in very few times, like the TLC match, that to me is all about the height, the ladders, and looking for ways to entertain the fans and get a title. But talking about Hell in a Cell… I think I’d like to face Finn Balor. That would be historical.”
Rey Mysterio and Finn Balor have only ever met once before on WWE television and that was at Survivor Series 2018 when they were on opposite sides of the Raw and SmackDown divide. A singles outing between the pair has always been high on the list of dream matches for fans everywhere.
Currently, Rey Mysterio is teaming with his son Dominik on Friday Night SmackDown in a continuation of his rivalry with Seth Rollins.
Over on NXT, Finn Balor is on the sidelines with a broken jaw he received during his bout with Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver 31.
