Rey Mysterio Match Announced For WrestleMania 41

Rey Mysterio Match Announced For WrestleMania 41

For the 13th time in his career, Rey Mysterio will be in action at WrestleMania.

Following the events that took place on the April 7th episode of Raw, the Hall of Famer demanded that Adam Pearce put him in a match with El Grande Americano [Chad Gable] in Las Vegas, which the General Manager made official.

Mysterio was ringside for the LWO’s match against The Creeds and Grande Americano, which saw the masked star pick up the win after putting a metal plate in his mask and delivering headbutts to Dragon Lee to win the match for his team. Offended that Grande Americano is insulting the rich tradition of Lucha Libre, Mysterio is looking to teach the masked wrestler a lesson in Las Vegas.

El Grande Americano made his in-ring debut at the Raw taping in Glasgow and defeated Dragon Lee after ripping off Lee’s mask in the closing moments of the match. Despite Michael Cole and numerous members of the roster pointing out that Grande Americano is Gable, others have denied the claim.

It should be noted that the match is currently a standard singles match and not a mask vs. mask match.

Also on Raw, Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker found out who his WrestleMania opponents will be.

When Did Rey Mysterio Debut At WrestleMania?

Mysterio made his debut at The Show of Shows back in 2003 when he unsuccessfully challenged Matt Hardy for the Cruiserweight Championship. Other notable Mania highlights from Mysterio’s career have included winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, defeating JBL in just 21 seconds at WrestleMania 25 and defeating his son Dominik at WrestleMania 37.

In other WWE news, a major promoter has had talks with William Regal regarding a possible return match.

As the WrestleMania card continues to grow, a new report has detailed how many matches are scheduled to take place at the show.
