The October 14th edition of Friday Night SmackDown began in truly chaotic circumstances.
Before the opening titles had even played the camera cut to the parking lot where there had been a car accident involving Karrion Kross and Scarlett. With the pair receiving medical attention the former NXT Champion was attacked by Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre proceeded to put a vicious beatdown on his rival as he tried to get some measure of revenge for being sprayed with mace at Extreme Rules. As the Scot looked to smash Kross’ head in a car door he was dragged away by a number of officials.
This left Karrion Kross unable to compete as advertised in a Fatal-Four-Way Match to determine a new number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
Kross’ place was taken by Rey Mysterio who was seen earlier in the night speaking with Triple H and actually trying to quit. The high-flying legend said that he wouldn’t face his son Dominik in the ring, so had reached his breaking point. The Game tried to talk Mysterio out of leaving and asked to see if he could find a solution.
Rey Mysterio Makes A Shock Appearance
With Sheamus, Ricochet and Solo Sikoa waiting in the ring, Rey Mysterio was announced as the fourth competitor in the match to a big ovation from the New Orleans crowd. It was also confirmed during commentary that Mysterio is a now full-time member of the SmackDown roster, taking him back to where his WWE career began.
In the ring it was Mysterio who scored the win after pinning Ricochet.
Since capturing the Intercontinental Title back in June, Gunther has set about restoring some of the championship’s prestige. The giant Austrian has already seen off the likes of Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura, while his battles against Sheamus will be talked about for years to come.
