Rey Mysterio’s Future After WWE Return Potentially Disclosed

Rey Mysterio Looks Back On Scrapped Heel Turn Plans In WWE

WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio’s future may have been revealed.

Rey Mysterio has been out of action since he was injured on the April 18 episode of SmackDown during a six-man tag team match. Due to the injury, he missed his WrestleMania 41 bout against El Grande Americano, for which Rey Fenix stepped up to compete against the self-proclaimed luchador instead.

The Hall of Famer later revealed that he suffered a torn groin and was recovering from a busted eardrum. Despite the injury, he did appear at AAA and WWE’s collaboration, Worlds Collide, where he opened the show. From the looks of it, he might continue being involved in that partnership once he returns.

While talking with Bill Apter on WrestleBinge, Konnan was asked if Rey Mysterio had a role in bringing WWE and Triple-A together. Konnan answered that neither he nor the Hall of Famer had a part in the deal.

However, Rey is among the top stars who started in AAA, along with Eddie Guerrero. The wrestling legend added that when Mysterio recovers from his injury, he might possibly be incorporated into AAA storylines.

Well, I don’t think he had anything to bring it together just like I didn’t and there were people above our pay grade. But, you know, he’s the face. He’s the face. He’s the biggest star that came, him and Eddie are the biggest stars that came out of AAA. And he’s the face of WWE, but everybody knows he started in AAA. And once he gets over his injury, we’ll probably be incorporating him into some storylines. He’d be great.”

Rey Mysterio Feels Like WWE Purchasing AAA Is A Full Circle Moment

In a conversation with La Plastica, Rey Mysterio talked about WWE acquiring the first promotion that gave him a chance to wrestle on television, and after several years, he noted that it feels nice to see that Lucha Libre was on the map.

“We [WWE] just closed up this weekend with the purchase of the first company that gave me the opportunity to wrestle on national television, AAA, which is based out of Mexico City. WWE just picked that company up and is going to take Lucha Libre to a whole different level,” he said. “At the age of 17, I took off and kicked my career off at AAA in Mexico City. And now, 34 years later, WWE purchased AAA. Lucha Libre is now officially stamped and on the map.” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
