Rey Mysterio Makes Video Appearance At AAA TripleMania

Rey Mysterio

Despite being under contract with WWE, Rey Mysterio has made a surprise appearance at AAA TripleMania XXX.

TripleMania is the biggest show on AAA’s calendar and this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Mysterio kicked things off in a video message where he congratulated the company on its success.

“Good evening to you all! It’s your friend Rey Mysterio and I want to start by giving an affectionate hug to everyone that is present tonight and had the time to come to this magnum event of TripleMania.

“I hope y’all have a wonderful time! It was a great honor being a part of the AAA Family and being a part of the first TripleMania in 1993. I want to congratulate all the wrestlers participating tonight & to the company for all your effort and work in making 30 years of successful TripleManias.

“Wishing you all have a ball tonight, blessings to all, and Viva Mi Raza!”

Rey Mysterio’s history with AAA

As he alluded to in his video, Rey Mysterio was part of AAA three decades ago when he was just at the beginning of his career and going by the slightly different moniker of ‘Rey Misterio Jr.’

While on the AAA roster, Mysterio notably feuded with Juventud Guerrera, beginning a rivalry that would carry on through multiple promotions with the pair also facing off in ECW, WCW, and CMLL.

The masked Lucha legend was part of the first TripleMania in 1993, where he, Volador, and Misterioso defeated Los Destructores.

Rey Mysterio left AAA in 1995 and signed with ECW. This was the springboard his career needed to take him to new heights in the US in WCW and later WWE.

Return to WWE SmackDown

On the October 14th edition of SmackDown, Mysterio met with Triple H, determined to quit WWE after being pushed to the limit by his son Dominik and Judgment Day on Raw.

However, The Game persuaded him to stay in the company but has taken him off Raw and made him a full-time member of the SmackDown roster.

In his first night of action on the blue brand, Mysterio scored himself a future shot at the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Ricochet, Sheamus, and Solo Sikoa in the main event.
