WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is reportedly set to return to AAA, along with other former AAA stars, following the company’s recent acquisition of the Mexican wrestling promotion.
The news comes via Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which recapped comments made by AAA Managing Director Dorian Roldan during the Sports Summit in Mexico City. According to Roldan, Mysterio will be making his return to the promotion, marking his first AAA appearance since 2018.
“He said Rey Misterio Jr. will return to AAA and that the ex-AAA talent now in WWE are excited and can’t wait to return, meaning Penta and Fenix,” Meltzer wrote.
Roldan also noted that AAA will now serve as a developmental gateway for Mexican talent aiming for a future in WWE.
Mysterio’s last AAA match took place in 2018, where he was involved in a three-way bout against Jeff Jarrett and Rey Wagner for the AAA Mega Championship. Penta and Rey Fenix, who have remained active on the international scene whilst they were signed to AEW, last appeared for AAA more recently, Penta in 2024 and Fenix in 2022.
