Rey Fenix & Tony Khan In Talks Over Potential AEW Exit

Following a wave of recent AEW departures, another major name is now expected to be on his way out of the company. According to the latest reports, Rey Fenix is moving closer to securing his release from Tony Khan’s promotion, with a WWE move likely on the horizon.

Last week, Malakai Black, Miro, and Ricky Starks all left AEW after previously requesting their releases. Starks has already made his WWE debut, appearing on this week’s episode of NXT. Fenix, however, was notably absent from that list, despite his desire to leave. Originally, Fenix and his brother Penta were expected to exit the company together and reunite in WWE as a tag team. However, Fenix had injury time added to his contract, delaying his departure. Reports indicated that his release was discussed alongside the others, but ultimately, Tony Khan opted to keep him under contract.

Now, it appears that the situation is changing. According to Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone, negotiations between Tony Khan and Fenix regarding his release are “progressing,” and his departure is now “expected to happen soon.” Featherstone also noted that Khan was recently advised to “put an end” to the situation. If Fenix does secure his release, the expectation remains that he will join WWE and reunite with Penta. This would mark a major shift in the wrestling landscape, with yet another high-profile AEW talent making the jump to WWE.

What Did Rey Fenix Say About His Current Contract Status?

Rey Fenix recently clarified his AEW contract status and said that he is still under contract with an additional extension and is “waiting” to either be called in to wrestle or to receive an update on his current situation and where he stands with the company.
