Rey Fenix defended the AEW Tag Team Title on Dynamite with brother Penta El Zero M, but the match came at a cost as Fenix suffered a gruesome injury.
AEW made its debut on TBS with their first show of 2022 and the card was loaded. Three title matches took place as Bryan Danielson once again challenged Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Title and Jade Cargill and Ruby Soho battled it out to become the inaugural TBS Champion.
In the night’s main event, The Lucha Brothers defended their gold against number one contenders Jurassic Express in a barn-burning encounter.
Towards the end of the match, Luchasaurus had hold of a prone Rey Fenix on the ring apron before chokeslamming Fenix through a table that was on the floor. Fenix could be seen stretching out his left arm as he careered towards the floor through the table. Unfortunately, his arm got caught as he hit the ground and then bent into an angle that arms aren’t supposed to bend into.
The video below shows Fenix crashing through the table but the camera angle has been changed before the impact and AEW has blurred the grisly image of Fenix’s arm – for those familiar, think Sid’s leg in WCW.
There is no word as to how long Fenix will be out of action with this injury, but he is sure to miss some time from the ring given the severity of it. To add insult to injury, Jungle Boy managed to roll up Penta El Zero M for the three count and the victory, giving himself and Luchasaurus their first taste of gold in AEW.
