Rey Fenix Makes WWE Debut Against Shocking Opponent On SmackDown

Rey Fenix

After months of waiting, Rey Fenix has finally arrived at World Wrestling Entertainment.

Last week, after Fenix’s official debut date was announced, fans witnessed the high-flying luchador make his presence felt tonight on the 4th April episode of SmackDown. Coming off a controversial contract agreement with Tony Khan, Fenix finally made his debut.

However, shocking fans all over the arena and the globe, the promotion presented one-half of the NXT tag-team champions, Nathan Frazer, as Rey Fenix’s opponent. Before the show, Fightful Select and WrestleVotes confirmed Frazer as the debutant’s opponent. In an extremely fast-paced match, both the stalwarts put forward a critically acclaimed match.

Promos for Fenix commenced airing several weeks prior. Formerly employed by AEW, his name was removed from their roster in March, concluding his tenure with the organization. This marked Fenix’s first match since July 2024.

Fenix’s brother Penta is also in WWE and actively competes on Raw. Despite the two brothers wrestling on different brands, the promotion has kept the majority of their merchandise very similar to each other, hinting toward a future Lucha Bros reunion.

Rey Fenix Breaks Silence Following His Debut Match

Following his debut victory on SmackDown, Rey Fenix appeared in an interview segment with Bryan Saxton. Hyping up his debut and appearance on the brand, Fenix claimed,

“I’ve waited my whole life to say this – I am WWE.”

Later, Berto of the Legado Del Fantasma was teased as the former AEW star’s opponent next week.
