A new report has claimed that despite being taken to hospital following AEW Dynamite, the injury sustained by Rey Fenix may not be as bad as first feared.
On the January 5th episode of AEW Dynamite, The Lucha Bros were in action defending their AEW World Tag Team Championships against Jurassic Express. The match had been set following a chaotic ten-man tag team match on the December 29th edition of the show, and the carnage continued all the way into the new year.
With the match heading towards a conclusion, the action went into overdrive, as both teams pulled out one unbelievable move after another. The violence a crescendo with Luchasaurus delivering a devastating Chokeslam on Rey Fenix from the ring apron through a table to the floor. While the landing was already bad enough, Fenix’ arm appeared to get caught, bending into the most unnatural of positions.
Despite initial suggestions that the arm may have been broken or worse, it has now been reported that the injury may not be as bad as first feared. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that the injury was more likely a dislocation, something later confirmed by Bryan Alvarez.

Back in the ring, Jungle Boy countered a second attempt at a Made in Japan into a roll-up on Penta to claim the win. The victory marks the first time that Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus have have had their hands on championship gold in AEW.
The Lucha Bros won the AEW World Tag Team Championships back in September 2020 when they defeated the Young Bucks. Their final defence came against FTR on the December 8th edition of Dynamite.
Meanwhile the report from Johnson also noted that recent signing Jake Atlas was seen on crutches after the show. Although there are no details on the specifics of the injury, it was said that Atlas “blew his knee out” during his first match on AEW television.
