Earlier today, AEW posted a video from Eddie Kingston and the Lucha Brothers on Twitter revealing that Rey Fenix had been injured and would no longer be able to compete in the next round of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament. In the video, Kingston told Fenix he should forfeit his spot in the tournament to his brother, Penta El Zero M.

Fenix looked understandably unhappy with the idea of being replaced by the man he beat in the first round of the tournament this week on Dynamite, but AEW have confirmed the change. It will now be Penta facing Kenny Omega in the next round of the tournament.
Fenix is likely to have been injured during the match when he performed a twisting headscissors on Penta but appeared to land awkwardly, hurting his neck. While he went on to win the match, it appears that he was hurt more than initially thought. There is currently no word on how long he will be out of action.
The World Title Eliminator Tournament semi-finals will be held on next week’s Dynamite, with the final taking place at Full Gear on November 7. The winner will be awarded a future AEW World Championship opportunity.
