Rey Fenix has opened up on his AEW contract situation.
Last wrestling in AEW on the 20th July 2024 episode of Collision in a win over Tony Nese, Rey Fenix has not been seen on television since then. With controversy regarding Rey Fenix’s contract status for the past few months, the former International Champion has now provided an update on his situation.
Speaking with Lalo Elizarrarás, Fenix shared an update on his injuries, in-ring absence, and how he and his brother Penta paved the way for other budding Mexican wrestlers. Addressing his ongoing contract situation, Fenix claimed:
Yes, basically I’m still under contract with an additional extension. I am waiting to be used, to be called to work, or to have my situation clarified a little more”.
Last year, it was suspected that both Fenix and his brother, Penta, would have joined WWE after their contract with AEW expired. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned, and while Penta now finds himself a crucial part of WWE, his brother remains employed with Tony Khan’s promotion.
Rey Fenix Addresses Ongoing Wrestling Absence
In the same interview with Lalo Elizarrarás, Fenix opened up on his ongoing wrestling absence. Choosing to work on his mental peace and other personal projects, Fenix commented,
“Mainly, my life has always been about wrestling and it’s not like I stopped training. On the contrary, I have more time to train. I have more time to perfect my skills. I have more time to create new things, to work on my injuries, to work on my body, and mainly, to work on my head.
I’m doing personal projects, like buying my house and a future for my children, but I could have had the option of continuing to work every weekend, but nobody stays in a place where they are not wanted. It’s very difficult to wear the shirt of one relationship when you need the other party to back you up, to support you, or simply not ask for anything exaggerated that you deserve as an athlete and as part of the relationship.
