WWE could be set to kick off 2024 by returning to St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Royal Rumble has been one of WWE’s traditional “Big Four” since 1998 and has become a firm favorite among fans. The Royal Rumble matches themselves have created numerous stunning moments and provided the backdrop to even more surprise returns.
The most recent edition of the event took place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas with the men’s match being won by Cody Rhodes, while Rhea Ripley triumphed in the women’s match.
As 2024 slowly moves into view, plans are being put in place for where the spectacular will land in the new year. According to a new report from Mike Johnson via PWInsider Elite, that could be in St. Petersburg, Florida, at Tropicana Field, home of the MLB franchise the Tampa Bay Rays.
The event was last held at the venue in 2021 although no fans were in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions.
What Happened The Last Time WWE Took The Royal Rumble To Florida?
The event at the ThunderDome in 2021 was something of a strange affair and lacked the spark of years gone by due to the absence of the crowd. However, both the men’s and women’s Rumble matches saw popular winners, with Edge and Bianca Belair picking up the victory.
Elsewhere on the card, Drew McIntyre defeated Goldberg to retain the WWE Championship, and Roman Reigns retained his Universal Title with a win over Kevin Owens.
Thankfully for fans, the Premium Live Event was one of the last to take place inside the ThunderDome with live crowds able to return for both nights of WrestleMania 37.
