Following her debut on last night’s Dynamite, Renee Paquette has moved quickly to shoot down any hopes of moving behind the AEW commentary desk.
Renee Paquette worked for WWE, under the name Renee Young, between 2012 and 2020 and performed in a variety of roles. The multi-talented broadcaster was used primarily as a backstage interviewer or panel host, but was given a chance to showcase her personality on the fondly remembered Talking Smack show, which she co-hosted with Daniel Bryan.
Paquette also made history in WWE in 2018 when she became the first permanent female commentator in the history of Monday Night Raw.
However, speaking on the most recent episode of ‘The Sessions’, Renee had this to say when asked about the potential of working commentary in AEW:
“I shouldn’t say no. But I also feel like, I feel like anyone that just heard you say that probably had the same reaction as me is like, ‘No, thanks, we don’t need that, we don’t want that.’ And that’s always how I felt about it. Which is why I always feel like I have that really quick knee jerk reaction, because I feel like, I feel like people had such a negative reaction to it. And it was, you know, it just wasn’t the thing that I wanted it to be. And could it be different in different circumstances? And we all know what those circumstances are. Could it be different? Possibly.”
While Renee did not completely rule out ever doing commentary again, she did confess that that is not where her passion lies:
“I don’t know that that’s the thing that I love doing, like if the opportunity made sense and it was something that everyone was on the same page about, like, maybe, but I just don’t see that being what I want to do. I don’t know. I don’t love like, I like doing the TV stuff, I like doing the interviews. I like all of that stuff. I think like just being the voice during the entire show is just not really my thing.”
Renee Paquette was utilised in her preferred interviewer role on last night’s Dynamite. She opened the show with an on-stage interview with Christian Cage, before conducting multiple backstage interviews with the likes Ethan Page and Nyla Rose throughout the show.
