One of Kazuchika Okada‘s latest matches is said to have gone very wrong due to a major error on AEW’s part!
In the main event of this Saturday’s AEW Collision, Kazuchika Okada will face off against CMLL veteran Ultimo Guerrero in a first-time-ever match. However, the match has already taken place, having been taped after Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
Unfortunately, the match did not go well at all – being described as “a total mess” by Dave Meltzer via various accounts he heard from fans in attendance for the taping. The Cubs Fan, also known as Luchablog on X, reported further details on what exactly went wrong.
A Promotional Error Led To Big Issues During Kazuchika Okada Vs. Ultimo Guerrero
Ahead of the taping, AEW is said to have promoted Guerrero’s appearance under his masked identity. However, Guerrero has not wrestled with a mask since losing a high-profile mask vs mask match back in 2014 and therefore did not bring one with him to the show.
This led to a frantic scramble to find or create a mask for him at the last minute and while one was acquired, it quickly became apparent that it was not suitable. During their match, Guerrero’s mask fell off his face multiple times despite Guerrero appearing to cut several spots to minimise the risk of the mask falling off.
The issues with Guerrero’s mask are said to have led to a poor match overall for what both Okada and Guerrero are capable of, with Meltzer adding in his report that it was fortunate that the match did not air live due to its quality.
Following on from the match airing, Ultimo Guerrero has given his side of the story.
