After Bobby Lashley overcame Drew McIntyre at Hell In A Cell inside the ‘Devil’s Playground,’ the WWE Champion was in need of a new challenger. Step forward Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.
While Kingston landed himself a match against Lashley at Money In The Bank, Xavier Woods got a chance to tangle with the champion on June 21st. However, it wasn’t just any match, Woods got to go one on one with Bobby Lashley in the first Hell In A Cell match on Monday Night RAW in more than 20 years.
During the match the multi-time tag champion displayed his famous ‘never say die’ attitude, but was eventually defeated by Lashley. Although that wasn’t quite the end of the story.
After the match, Woods was viciously beaten down by Lashley and MVP as a helpless Kofi Kingston could only watch on from outside the cage.
The following week, Woods was conspicuous by his absence from the red brand, with his non-appearance not being explained.
With that being said, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Woods was absent for a very simple reason. He’d asked for the week off. This led to his post-match beatdown from Lashley being used as a vehicle to explain away his disappearance.
Bobby Lashley also missed the most recent episode of RAW, but there is no word as to why.
Both men will return to the red brand for a non-title rematch on the upcoming episode of the show.
At WWE Money In The Bank Kofi Kingston will attempt to regain the WWE Championship that he lost to Brock Lesnar in 2019.
WWE Money In The Bank will take place on July 18th in Fort Worth,Texas. The event will see a WWE pay-per-view take place in front of the crowd for the first time since February 2020.
